In the Clarke County School District, we were able to see how various schools integrated technology by utilizing a variety of of digital tools. The outcome of integrating technology allowed us to understand the benefits of how it engages students in their learning more. As educators, we are able to reach students by enhancing the learning experience through technology. Why? Well, the learners of today are growing up in a digitally advanced world where everything around them is digital from phones to computers, to the way we can transfer money (Zelle, cash app, and PayPal), game systems, and the biggest digital effect of them all is social media. Because of this it is important for educators and school districts to integrate digital tools and technology into the curriculum.
Some of the current tools that are being used within my classroom are Schoology, Canva, Microsoft Teams, WeVideo, and Powerpoint. I haven't explored many more especially for students because any new digital tool that we introduce, you must set out time to explain how to use it effectively to students which can be difficult at times when you already have a tight schedule for teaching the content itself.
In Kahn's video he talks about using video to transform education and realizing his significance becoming of social value in the world as just a hedge fund analyst. Recorded videos can be very helpful to learners. It gives the learner an opportunity to pause, rewind, and just learn as fast or slow as they need to. It can also be used for re-teach purposes or quick review. My personal experience with videos were at the highest peak during COVID-19. We had to find a way to still get the lessons across to finish out the school year when COVID shocked the world. Our district chose to do video lessons and assign independent work through schoology.
After reading and discovering that there are a lot more digital tools to enhance learning, I plan to explore some of these to incorporate into next school year.
