The impact that COVA has on my learning is enriching. To have choice, ownership, and voice over my own learning experience has thus far been amazing and will continue to be something I look forward to throughout the ADL program. Cova transforms traditional didactic models of teaching and learning by promoting more student-centered and engaging approaches. Students are allowed to create more authentic learning experiences compared to the traditional passive rote memorization learning experience. I believe that each part of the COVA learning approach is beneficial to students learning. Each component of the COVA model helps students to be able to feel that they are more in control of the direction of their learning. This provides students with the ability to feel more motivated and confident in their learning.
Concerning the learner's mindset, COVA has a direct correlation with this mindset. When giving learners choice, ownership, and voice creating authentic learning experiences takes hard work. It often allows for room to grow and expand your ideas in ways unimaginable. I would say that is what makes the COVA method challenging. It requires us to think outside of the box and there is no lid on what you can acquire during learning and showcase. There is a wide range of choices you can make and sometimes this can cause frustration in the beginning process of an assignment.
Overall, I would say that I have been progressively more open to this learner's mindset since beginning the ADL program than before. The feedback that can be received allows for the mind to be challenged and the expansion of your ideas. Identifying areas that can be reconstructed to be better than what they are. I have been way more welcoming to receiving the feedback and making immediate revisions when necessary.
