Contribution to My Learning & Learning Community

EDLD 5302/5305

Learning is a life-long journey whether it's through sharing knowledge, asking insightful questions, or simply being curious and engaged. As I conclude the first two courses of the ADL program, I have an opportunity to reflect on the journey that has just begun. Given this opportunity, I will analyze my strengths, shortcomings, and contributions made to my learning and learning community in Concepts of Educational Technology as well as the Disruptive Innovation Course. Self-reflection is a powerful tool for personal growth and self-improvement.

My self-assessment scores are as follows below:

  • Concepts of Educational Technology (5302)- 89

  • Disruptive Innovation (5305)- 44.5

My learning community embodied a supportive environment where we could collaborate, exchange ideas, and ultimately help each other succeed in our learning endeavors. My learning community for each course is listed below.

  • Concepts of Educational Technology (5302)- Kimberely Goffney, Anna Gonzalez, Robin Holk, and Regginee Booker

  • Disruptive Innovation (5305)- Kimberely Goffney, Anna Gonzalez, Maria Montemayor, and Amy Benitez

My self-assessment scores are a true indicator of my self-awareness throughout these courses. Rewinding to the start of the program, I found myself making sure that I was always on top of things. In the first week, I bought myself two acrylic magnetic calendars to place on my fridge to even add extra awareness of upcoming due dates and accurately pace myself through each of the modules for readings and discussions within both courses. Although I wasn't able to always join the live webinar calls due to after-school tutoring clients and being a youth track coach, I always made sure to check the announcements as well as watch the recorded sessions to gain clarity before starting each assignment. This was beneficial because I was able to meet all deadlines without any late submissions. In addition to submitting my assignments on time, I made sure to check back frequently for graded work and feedback. Anytime I received feedback that required some revisions, I was adamant about analyzing the feedback immediately and seeing how I could make improvements. Any revisions necessary, I made it my goal to correct and resubmit within a timely manner which fell anywhere between 24 and 48 hours to be respectful of my professor's time as well. I believe that because I was driven to analyze the feedback and make revisions for improvement, I have wholeheartedly embraced the idea of the growth mindset throughout these first two courses.

My learning communities also played a very important role throughout these two courses. We were all able to provide each other with knowledge, feedback/feedforward, and support whether it was asking questions or bouncing off ideas to help improve each other's assignments. I believe that I was able to fulfill my role in my learning community the most during the feedforward process of constructing and submitting our implementation outline. Not only did I contribute to those within my learning community, but I also tried to help other classmates who were not directly a part of my learning community as well that posted within our course messages. I also made sure to engage in all discussion posts and reply only to those that I authentically made a connection with that way I was replying with something that resonated with my heart and mind.

As far as my area of weakness, I would say that I did not fulfill a leadership role within either of these courses. I have realized that it is typically hard for me to step up and take the leadership role on my own without being "voluntold". However, once I fulfill the role I make sure that I own the role and fulfill the duties of properly leading and assisting. Knowing that this was my weakness in this course, I aim to be able to take on a leadership opportunity in the next set of courses. I will work towards creating new learning community groups if necessary and a form of communication through our cell phones to make collaboration and communication run seamlessly. Being aware that there is always room for growth and development, I have also joined a few professional learning networks to broaden my knowledge and enhance my expertise in the digital community. These professional learning networks include:

In conclusion, this journey of exploration and discovery has not only broadened my understanding and knowledge of Concepts of Educational Technology and Disruptive Innovation with the integration of technology but also deepened my appreciation for its complexities. The process of researching, analyzing literature, engaging with different perspectives, and grappling with challenging ideas has helped me grow intellectually and personally thus far. I am looking forward to more authentic learning experiences throughout the remainder of this program and the ongoing production of my e-portfolio.
