As I continue my journey through the ADL program, I have been overjoyed with the amount of new information I have acquired and the technological skills I have learned through the creation of my e-portfolio. I love the idea of COVA within this program. Having choice, ownership, voice, and authentic learning experiences throughout this program has opened up a newfound love for learning and showcasing my creativity while learning. Not only am I learning new information, but I have also been able to collaborate and discuss with my peers within this program through Microsoft Teams. My first two courses consisted of 5302 and 5305. During those courses, I was able to begin the process of creating my e-portfolio by adding learning reflections on the growth mindset, my learning manifesto, and identifying how I would disrupt the traditional methods of education through my innovation proposal.
Since completing my first two courses, I have made changes to my e-portfolio through my about me page by adding photographs of student learning experiences in my classroom, while also adding new reflections on creating significant learning environments (CSLE) and the core beliefs and learning theories I identify with most through my learning philosophy. CSLE allowed me to understand the importance of play, imagination, and constraint at any age level in education. Creating a significant learning environment can lead to an increase in student engagement and motivation. It allows the student to take ownership of their learning, driving the teacher to become more of a learning facilitator guiding student-led instruction. In my learning philosophy, I describe the learning theory I identify with most which is the constructivist theory through the 5E learning model while also highlighting my interest in the connectivism theory based on learning in the 21st century (digital age) and my innovation plan.
As far as new technological skills, I have learned how to create images through Canva to utilize for my e-portfolio and discovered that Wix has AI images. AI images allows you to type a descriptive for what type of image you want and it continues to generate images until you find one that resonates with you. I have used a combination of both to help update different photos on my e-portfolio on my learning manifesto page, blog posts, and CSLE reflection page.
Lastly, I have provided new learning reflections through a number of blog post as well. One entitled "Learning Revolution". In this post, I discuss Sir Ken Robinson's ideas on the difference between reform and a revolution; education needs a revolution. I also address the idea of education being seen as a linear industrialized model and why leaders in education need to understand that all students aren't meant to fit that idea, nor should education continue to be looked at as linear. I have communicated my new perspective on how to be successful in the ADL program through a change of focus and the CSLE + COVA Framework as well as why e-portfolios are important.
Overall, I have gained an influx of knowledge and skills thus far within the program and I know that it will continue to increase. The creation of my e-portfolio is built on the growth mindset...we are making progress and growth...not perfection. I can't wait to see what lies ahead as I continue this journey of obtaining my Master's Degree in Lamar University's Applied Digital Learning Program.
